71 artists from 15 countries, 8 Canadian provinces and many Indigenous cultures perform on 7 stages around the Island. On Thursday night, witness Tal National’s joyously hypnotic Niger rock and 2018 Juno nominee Charlotte Day Wilson’s captivating soul. Atmospheric, emotionally piercing songwriter Sharon Van Etten makes a return visit and Scottish iconoclasts Belle and Sebastian mark their debut Alberta appearance.
Friday night, harmony-laden folk meets alt-pop Half Moon Run close the night, following Prince’s protégée, the Queen of Percussion, Sheila E. They’re joined by the very Canadian Rheostatics on the heels of their first release in 14 years, powerful early blues/soul crooner Ndidi O and Cuban jazz percussion phenom Yissy Garcia & Bandancha.
On Saturday night, give Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats a drink to toast their gritty and inventive old school R&B. The night also features the serpentine folk-rock harmonies of Lucius, the timeless Gullah rhythms of Ranky Tanky, the unique Afro-Amerindian global grooves of The Garifuna Collective and American roots music revivalists Asleep at the Wheel.
Sunday night’s festivities include all-female bluegrass outfit Della Mae, Valerie June’s timeless Appalachian-sprinkled old school soul, Colter Wall’s take on classic country and anthemic indie rock sextet The Strumbellas.
